World-Class Chinese Beijing Opera to Perform in San Marino

by Winston Chua

The San Gabriel Valley community is welcome to witness a rare evening of Chinese Beijing Opera at the San Marino Center Friday evening, October 4. Nearly a dozen world-class performers, the future stars of Beijing Opera, will display their art and tell their stories.

The event, which begins at 7 p.m., is entitled?Chinese Beijing Opera?and is sponsored by the China Youth Opera House, San Marino Recreation Department and the Chinese Opera Association, led by president Wendy Chang. Admission is free.

?Everyone should see this play,? said San Marino Councilman Richard Sun. ?There are important messages of moral conduct, respecting parents and loyalty to country that everyone can appreciate.?

The artistic opera performance, Sun said, can help second or third generation Asian Americans appreciate an art from that many have perhaps never seen.

?Grab the opportunity,? Sun said. ?It?s also an opportunity for non-Chinese to learn about Chinese culture.?

The delegation of 13 Beijing performers met with various media outlets Wednesday morning and gave a preview of what Friday?s audience might expect. The San Marino Center is located at 1800 Huntington Drive in San Marino.
